High school students are divided into two groups. Years 7-9 inclusive which we refer to as the secondary sector and years 10-12 inclusive which is referred to as the senior sector.

Secondary School

Students in Secondary School continue to build their academic achievements in their well-resourced secondary area which includes small computer labs as well as an outdoor education space.

Secondary students spend additional time learning about themselves as teenagers and developing ways to self-regulate their behaviours, deal with conflict and boundary setting and grow into resilient young people who are able access the community for a variety of experiences.

Secondary students are able to participate in their first school camp and build upon their leisure and recreation experiences including school representation through sporting teams and participation in specific secondary events.

Senior School

Students in their Senior phase of learning complete a PATH Plan (Pathways to alternate tomorrows with hope) with key staff,  their family and invited circle of friends to embed their future post school hopes and dreams into their individual learning goals. This important plan combined with their Secondary Education and Training Plan (SET-P), ensures each student’s senior schooling curriculum is tailored to support the attainment of individual excellence as well as the Queensland Certificate for Individual Achievement.

Students in senior school participate in both internal and external work experience programs, post school options sampling, further senior school curriculum study, and vocational education and training. Suitably qualified staff deliver Certificate 1 in Hospitality, Active Volunteering, Work Readiness and Information Communication Technology.

Kuraby Special School also has a proud history of enabling student leadership opportunities with all senior students proudly wearing their senior uniform. Year 12s are able to order a special Year 12 uniform shirt and demonstrate their responsible behaviours at our school and community celebrations. School leadership positions include indigenous leaders, sports captains and school captains.
