Our approach to student behaviour at Kuraby Special School is explained in the Student Code of Conduct 2021-2024.  Kuraby Special School is a Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) school. This school-wide framework is a system for encouraging positive behaviours, preventing problem behaviour and responding to unacceptable behaviours.

All school community members have clear and consistent expectations and these expectations are specifically taught daily and promote high standards of responsible behaviour through our 4 CARES.

  • Care For Yourself (Red)

  • Care For Others (Purple)

  • Care For Your Learning (Green)

  • Care For Your School (Blue)

Rewards System

  • Students are rewarded with CARE Tickets from staff members for their appropriate behaviour.

  • CARE Tickets are then placed into CARE Buckets, which are drawn for a prize at Parade.

  • CARE tickets are returned to class and the students glue their tickets into their  CARE Book

  • For every 12 CARE Tickets, the student is rewarded with a SUPERCARE Ticket

  • For every 5 SUPERCARE Tickets, the student receives a coloured

         CARE Wristband

  • Once the student receives the set of 4 wristbands, they will be rewarded with a

          Multi-coloured Wristband.

The Zones of Regulation
The school has begun to implement the program The Zones of Regulation by Leah.M. Kuypers. This curriculum has been designed to focus on emotional self-regulation and self-control.
Self-regulation is the ability to adjust level of alertness and direct how emotions are revealed behaviourally in socially adaptive ways in order to achieve goals.

The program encompasses the teaching and learning of:

  • Self-control
  • Resiliency
  • Self-management
  • Anger management
  • Impulse control
  • Sensory regulation
