Support staff

Therapists

Our school has access to an Occupational Therapist, two Speech Language Pathologists, Physiotherapist and a Nurse, who form part of the school's multidisciplinary team.

Their role is to:

  • Assess and review individual student needs as required,

  • Assist in prioritising student needs into programs,

  • Design programs for individuals and/or groups of students,

  • Assist with the implementation of and integrated program by either direct individual work with a student or group of students or by training other staff to manage the program,

  • Liaising with parents and teachers and other external agencies regarding specific therapy needs for individuals.

Guidance Officer

The Guidance Officer is available to assist students, staff and parents. The Guidance Officer is trained in dealing with educational and personal concerns through counselling and guidance. The Guidance Officer is based at Kuraby Special School and will be in the school on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Guidance Support includes but is not restricted to:

  • Assisting the school team to complete Verification Applications and Reviews,

  • Chair the Positive Action Team- our case management review process which includes looking at the whole student,

  • Conducting staff learning and developmental programs,

  • Organisation of the Parent Room and workshops for parents to promote a positive school environment,

  • Counselling/ Emotional Support,

  • Networking with other Interagencies.
